The 71st Independence day is celebrated at this Panchayat with the unfurling of the National Flag at the Panchayat Complex, Buticas Navelim. The Occasion was marked with a Special Gram Sabha Where-in the students are accompanied by the teachers of the respective school, Govt. Primary School, Ratwaddo, Rosary High School, Navelim and Perpetual Succour Convent High School, Navelim. This day also marks the 75th Anniversary of Quit India Movement and is commemorated with rally and pledge. The Gathering was welcomed by Smt. Vilma D’Silva, Sarpanch and cited about the prime sacrifices of the freedom fighters for marking this day of Independence. Chief Guest Shri. Edwin Cardozo, Zilla Panchayat Member, is present for this meeting. He expressed his views towards Independence celebrated today and called upon the members present to become a better citizens of India. He cited about the garbage problem which is on a rise day by day.

The students participating recited the National Patriotic poems and songs. Also awards were presented to the students obtaining highest marks in SSCE March 2017 Examination. Miss. Alria Lourenco and Mast. Curt Rois Aron Coutinho, Secured equal highest marks through Perpetual Succour Convent High School and Miss. Archana Uday Bandodkar, Secured highest Marks through Rosary High School. Also 60 poor and needy students received free school uniforms from the panchayat.

The V.P. Secretary and V.P. Staff of Village Panchayat Navelim are felicitated by the Panchayat for putting hard work in providing digital services to residents of Navelim and for bringing the name of Village Panchayat Navelim high at Goa State level.

Shri. Paul Pereira, Dy. Sarpanch; extended his greetings and thanked the gathering and the participants of the programme and requested all the students to keep up the hard work of good studies so as to become responsible future of the nation and congratulated the V.P. Secretary & V.P. Staff and urged them to keep up the level of service and the name achieved for Village Panchayat Navelim.
